Establishing a Club

If you believe that your needs are not being met by a current club and have a great idea for a new club this information below well help explain what is required in establishing a club at Monash University Caulfield Campus. Please note the following information relates to establishing a non-sporting club, sporting clubs enquires must be directed to Monash Sport.

Registered Groups (non-sporting clubs)

The registered group is a new system introduced in 2004 to alleviate the administrate hassles of starting a new club. Instead of incorporating your club as a business the registered group will be able to function under the auspices of MONSU Peninsula.

All new clubs will be trailed as a registered group for the first year unless circumstances necessitate the club being affiliated from the beginning.

Students who wish to establish a registered group must submit a Registered Group Application and provide names and details of ten interested Peninsula students.

The MONSU Peninsula Student Council will then consider the application. If permission is given the club may begin operating. Registered groups will be required to submit a report of their activities, finances and membership numbers every tweleve months.

At the end of the twelve months a registered group can either apply to be re-registered or submit an application to become affiliated.

A registered group has access to:

  • Notice board space
  • MONSU and University meeting rooms
  • MONSU publications and website
  • Club trestle table and chairs
  • Staff support

Affiliated Clubs

An affiliated club is a separate legal entity in its own right. . An affiliated club must hold general meetings, submit annual statements, utilise a MONSU finance bank account and follow specific MONSU Peninsula operating procedures and rules.

The affiliated club has numerous benefits over a registered group including a dedicated staff mentor, use of the clubs resource room which has a telephone and photocopier access.

As well as the resources for registered groups, affiliated clubs also have access to:

  • Annual club grant provided by MONSU Peninsula
  • Club phone and photocopier access
  • Club locker
  • Use of the club resource room and a Monash network user account for club use
