History

Originally a teachers college, the Peninsula campus was previously known as the State College at Frankston. Following talks with Caulfield Institute of Technology in the early 1980s, the college then became the Frankston campus of the newly-formed Chisholm Institute of Technology in 1982. On 1 July 1990, both the Peninsula and Caulfield campuses of the Chisholm Institute amalgamated with Monash University.

The student organisation has evolved over time to meet the needs of its students. Monash University Student Union (MONSU) Peninsula Inc is the successor of

  • Chisholm Institute of Technology Student Union (CITSU)

  • Monash University Student Union (MUSU)

In 2003, Monyx was established as an organisation half-owned by the students of Monash University (MONSU & MSA), and the commercial arm of Monash University (MONCOMM). This was to ensure seamless student services across all Monash campuses and to guarantee funding for student representation. In 2007, Monyx was disbanded.

MONSU Peninsula currently operates independently of Monash and MSA and was officially registered with Consumer Affairs Victoria on 24 September 2003.
