Overview

Take part in this FREE Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training, delivered entirely in Cantonese and designed specifically for Cantonese-speaking international students at Monash University.

Complete the Training

This course is delivered in Cantonese across two compulsory in-person sessions: 9:30am – 4:30pm (includes a one-hour lunch break)

  1. Session 1: Saturday 12 September

  2. Session 2: Saturday 19 September

Training will be held at Monash University Peninsula Campus and delivered by accredited Mental Health First Aid trainer and counsellor Ada Poon.

What You'll Learn

Throughout the course, you'll gain practical skills and confidence to support someone experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.

Topics include:

  • Understanding the prevalence of mental health problems

  • Common mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance use

  • Mental health crises, including self-harm, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, panic attacks, aggressive behaviours and traumatic events

  • Practical, evidence-based techniques to support someone until professional help is available

By the end of the course, you'll know how to recognise the signs of mental health problems, respond appropriately, and support friends, classmates and others who may need help.

These skills are valuable both personally and professionally, and can strengthen your resume while supporting your studies and future career.

This training also aims to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage help-seeking within our community.
