FEATURING VELVET BLOOM

Learn about the band below:

Velvet Bloom’s music speaks to the human spirit with an oozing honey pot of silky vocals,
lush soundscapes and raw emotion. Fusing delicate songwriting with a luscious and vibrant soul
sound that can fill any venue.
Making up this soul collective is Alex Markowitsch, guitarist, bassist, and producer of Velvet
Bloom bringing guitar licks and riffs as glossy as his long wavy hair. Miguel Hutton (Stevie Jean,
Jothi, King River Rising) providing his steady groove to the Velvet Bloom keys, synth, synth
bass and percussion. On the drums is Nic Morton who keeps a tight rhythm allowing lavish
chords to wash over. Last but not least, is guitarist, lead vocalist and primary songwriter of all
that is Velvet Bloom, Maddy Herbert. A literal ray of sunshine inside a human being that beams
from centre stage and warms the entire room no matter where you are standing. Maddy’s vocals
have been described as buttery, soulful, angelic, and ethereal. Her songs are lyrically and
vocally driven, always profound and reflective with a focus on healing, mental health, self-worth,
and identity. Every word is intentional and thoughtful. All members bring their own compelling
flavours to add to the delicious melting pot that is Velvet Bloom.

“One of the most important and eye-opening things I’ve learnt while working with Velvet
Bloom is how much care and intricacy Maddy [Herbert] takes with her vocals in the
recording process,” Grunden says.

“A bad take for Maddy is rare; it seriously blows my
mind. The rest of the band are exactly the same in their respective areas and work like a
dream as a collective.” – Quin Grunden, Beat magazine

“Equal parts enthralling and enchanting, Velvet Bloom is undeniably on the cusp of
big things in the near future.” - Tyler Jenke, Rolling Stone Magazine

The band are fresh off the release of their 2022 debut EP ’Glimmer’, which saw them tour
nationally around Australia through VIC, NSW, QLD, ACT and TAS, with sold out shows at Lazy
Bones (NSW) and The Night Cat (VIC). Released via independent label, Cousin Will Records,
‘Glimmer’ snagged several Spotify editorial playlist additions including The Local List, Soulful
Day, Fresh Finds, Equal AU & NZ and Broad Chords. Velvet Bloom went on to perform on
ABC’s Spicks and Specks, The National Gallery of Victoria, Loch Hart Music Festival and

Tanglewood post release. The full band then embarked on a national tour with WA indie-
rockers, Great Gable as their main support.

“Blown away with the sheer volume of talent oozing out of this release.” - Jay-Dee
Pitcaithly, Moshtix

Velvet Bloom have graced the stages of several Australian festivals including Ninchfest, Let Go
Fest, Frankston Waterfront Festival, Grampians Music Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival,
Come Together Festival and Macedon Rangers Music Festival. The band have had the
pleasure of supporting fellow music industry legends Telenova, Great Gable, Bumpy, Death By
Denim, Dulcie, The Grogans, Teenage Dads, Kim Churchill, Stevie Jean, Dice, Mako Road and
The Mamas.
Velvet Bloom are hard at work in the studio gearing up for their debut Album which is set to be
